Who publishes Street Futures

Street Futures is an independent project. It is not affiliated with the City of New York, the Department of Buildings, or any agency whose records it republishes—and despite the similar name, it has no connection to the New York Daily News.

No one can pay to add, change, remove or promote a record here. Every figure is traceable to a named public dataset and a record identifier, and the Verify the source row link on each record opens the original.

Why Street Futures exists

New York publishes an extraordinary amount of public information. Finding the relevant filing, understanding its status and placing it in neighborhood context are still separate tasks. Street Futures brings those steps together without hiding the underlying source.

The product began with a simple question: when someone sees work at an address, can they quickly learn what the public record says—and what it does not say? Our answer is a searchable map connected to durable building, street, neighborhood and filing pages.

What is on an address page

• Open Housing Maintenance Code violations by class — the ones about heat, hot water, pests and paint — kept separate from Department of Buildings violations, which are about building work.
• What the property, or the apartments on its tax block, last changed hands for, from the city’s recorded sales.
• The floor area of condominium apartments and the city’s market valuation for tax, which is neither an asking price nor a sale.
• The owner of record, published only where the name reads as a company.
• When it went up, how many storeys and homes it holds, its zoning, and whether it sits in a historic district.
• The building drawn from its own footprint at its own roof height, and every Department of Buildings filing that names it.

What makes it different

• Material claims remain connected to official record identifiers.
• Administrative status is not presented as physical progress.
• Low-information records do not enter the public search sitemap.
• Maps are paired with accessible lists and source notes.
• We do not publish property-price predictions.
• Apartment numbers are never carried, from any dataset that publishes them, and neither are the names of people.
