How tall is the New York being filed right now?
10038 filings in the current snapshot say how many storeys the building would have. Grouped by height they split into 4 bands — a useful cut, because a tower and a row house are the same kind of record and completely different kinds of news.
Height is read from the storeys a filing proposes, falling back to the storeys the building already has when the work does not change them. Filings that record no height at all are not in these bands.
Towers
Towers and high-rises.
Filings that describe a building of twenty-one storeys or more — the scale at which a project changes a skyline rather than a block.
Mid-rise
Mid-rise buildings.
Seven to twenty storeys: the elevator buildings that carry most of the city’s newer apartment supply.
Low-mid
Low-mid-rise buildings.
Four to six storeys — the walk-up scale that fills much of Brooklyn and the Bronx between the row houses and the elevator blocks.
